Generally, skips can be used for the removal of non-hazardous waste such as household items, building debris (bricks, timber, plastics), and garden waste. Hazardous items such as batteries, asbestos, tv’s, fridges, and freezers are prohibited from going in our skips.
(Bulkier items such as sofas and mattresses will carry an additional charge. Price on application)
Special and hazardous waste are not permitted in a skip. This includes materials such as: WEEE equipment, clinical waste, paints, oils, chemicals, asbestos, batteries and tyres. Due to the potentially harmful chemicals and gases used for cooling, you cannot put fridge/freezers in a skip.
We can only advise on the usefulness of skip hire in relation to size, capacity etc. – we cannot give advice on other waste disposal methods for your project.
Once we have collected your skip, we take your waste back to our state-of-the-art recycling centre located in the heart of Inchinnan, Renfrewshire where it is processed into singular waste streams that are free from contamination and fit for reuse. General waste will be sent to landfill, however at WRC Skip Hire we aim to be as sustainable as possible to work towards Zero Waste Scotland by recycling as many resources as possible and ethically disposing of materials that are recyclable.

Depending on the quantity of your waste, the size of skip required will vary. Our skip-size guide should help you decide on the size of skip you will need to facilitate the work being carried out.
Skips should only be filled to the top line of the skip sides – called ‘level loading’. This ensures waste can be transported safely. Overfilling your skip may incur an additional charge. If you’re unsure about which skip size you need, speak to one of our friendly team who can tell you more about how much a skip can hold.
We have different sizes from 4 yard skips to 40 yard roll-on-roll-off (roro) skips. You can find approximate measurements of our hire skips here.
There are limits as to how much weight a skip can hold, however this typically will not present any restrictions on your skip usage. If you are expecting to produce unusually heavy or bulky waste, please speak to the team to discuss the best option for your project.
We will do our best to ensure your skip delivery and collection does not cause any damage or interference to your property, however we do advise the skips are a heavy piece of equipment, which becomes heavier once loaded. You should ensure to take the necessary precautions, such as lining your driveway or garden and placing wooden planks or scaffolding poles can help lessen the pressure on the land by distributing the weight.
We do not require use of lights or coverings on our rental skips, however we do recommend conducting a safety assessment of the area and implementing any precautions necessary to ensure safe use of the equipment for the duration of the hire period.

For their own safety, drivers are not permitted to handle skip waste, so cannot load any rubbish into the skip. If you need help with labour, we typically suggest finding a local ‘man with a van’ service as an alternative.

Yes, if your project means you need to hire a skip for a day then we can accommodate this.
We offer short and long-term skip hire options. Our standard skip hire duration is 7 days, however the friendly WRC Skip Hire team can help you with your specific skip hire needs. Contact us here for more information about skip hire options.

Our hired skips can be placed on private land which includes driveways, gardens and private access roads. Provided the correct permit or authorisation is obtained it is also possible to place a skip on public land, such as the road outside your house.
The amount of space required will depend on the skip size you choose and where you intend to place it. We provide the approximate dimensions of our skips on our Find A Skip For You page, but for more specific information about sizes and deliveries, get in touch here.
When you make an enquiry for skip hire, we will provide you with the price for the duration of your hire period, any transportation fees and specify VAT for recording of business expenses.
Of course! If your project is taking longer than expected and you need to extend the duration of your skip hire booking, please contact our helpful team and they’ll be happy to discuss your options.
Absolutely, we need you to provide us with notice to arrange collection of your skip. If your site has special access requirements we may not be require a little longer to arrange collection but will let you know when we can collect. Contact us to discuss hire skip collection.
You can pay for your skip hire by debit or credit card or by bank transfer.
Provided the skip has not been delivered, we can amend your booking, however the availability of skip sizes is not guaranteed for the same period you originally requested. If we’re booked up, we’ll do our best to provide you with the size you need as soon as it becomes available.
Our skips are loaded onto specialist vehicles – a truck or lorry – designed to bear the size and weight of the skip. They are secured on during transit and are mechanically loaded and unloaded by the trained driver. Vehicles can be wider than a typical car so if your road or entrance is narrow or low, please mention this when making your skip hire enquiry.
We will need the address of where the skip is due to be delivered and any relevant information about access requirements.
We require that you – or an authorised person to represent you – is present when the skip is delivered, in order to examine the skip and ensure it is fit for purpose and in good condition. For more information, please read our T&Cs here.

Permits
If your skip is being placed on public land, you will need a permit from your local authority. We can arrange this for you at the time of booking.
If you want to place your skip on a public road or footpath, you will need to apply for a skip permit from your local council. Failure to obtain the correct permit may result in a fine – “If you propose to place a skip on a road (carriageway, footway, footpath or cycle path), there is a requirement under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 to obtain permission from the local Roads Authority.” – we have created a guide on skip permits to help you understand skip permit obligations. If you let us know at the time of booking that your skip will be placed on public land, we will apply for a skip placement permit from your local council.

We provide you with a skip hire quote prior to agreement, which includes all relevant charges for standard skip hire. If you have any special requirements please notify us in advance. If your skip exceeds the level load policy (found in our T&Cs) there may be an additional charge for us to safely remove the skip and associated waste.
Fly Tipping
Fly tipping describes the dumping of waste in the wrong place, and can be anything from a bin bag of household waste to large quantities of domestic, commercial or construction waste. Fly tipping poses health and safety risks to the public and risks damaging the environment and wildlife.
Unless you monitor your skip 24/7, unfortunately you cannot entirely prevent others from placing unwanted items in your rented skip. You can use preventive measures, such as covering the skip when it isn’t in use, attaching lights and even CCTV monitoring may be an option.
If you experience issues with your hired skip being used without your permission, you can report incidents of fly tipping to the relevant local authority directly. You can find details for the relevant local authority at GOV.UK.
Items placed in your skip on private property are illegal, as entering private land is seen as trespassing and removing items may be considered theft.
