What Can You Not Put In a Skip?

It’s more important to understand which items are banned from being placed in your hired skip. The following items are hazardous to individuals and the environment. Avoid placing any of these in your skip:

Fluorescent Bulbs

Fluorescent lamps are not permitted in any of our skips because they carry the dangerous element mercury. Find out where your closest recycling facility is by contacting your local municipality.

Batteries

Most people are aware that batteries cannot simply be thrown into the waste. They include hazardous materials like lead. If they leak, anyone who comes in contact with them risks suffering serious effects. It is advisable to get your used batteries to the proper location since landfills cannot accept batteries as rubbish unless they have been fully cleaned up. Batteries cannot be placed in a skip, no matter how little they are.

Tyres

We are not able to facilitate tyre disposal. You’ve got three choices if you have tyres to dispose of:

1. You can request that your tyre changer or fitter dispose of it for you.
2. You can recycle it and use it elsewhere in your home
3. You can get the name of the closest tyre collection company by contacting the Tyre Recovery Organisation.

Asbestos

As one of the world’s most dangerous materials, asbestos, has a number of negative health effects including cancer of the lungs, ovaries and larynx. Without protective measures, asbestos exposure increases a person’s risk of developing a wide range of very detrimental health affects. We cannot accept asbestos or similar fibre-based products like corrugated fibre/concrete sheets, so if you have any, please contact a professional removal company.

Gas Cylinders

Even if you believe your gas cylinder to be empty, there will always be some residue. You should always bring cylinders to a specialised facility since gas is flammable. Medical Waste
