What is the Waste Disposal Process?
Contrary to popular belief, not all skip waste is disposed of in landfills. As one of the leading sustainable waste management centres in Scotland, we make every effort to appropriately recycle the rubbish we collect in our skip hires. However, depending on the type of waste, there are several steps that must be completed beforehand.
Sorting & Organising
Skips transport a variety of commodities. These are brought back to the waste centre and sorted there. Generally speaking, the size of the skip denotes what type of materials will be in the skip for example: 4 yard, 8 yard and 12 yard skips tend be used more for household waste when moving home or renovating a property.
Larger items are removed from the skip and set aside to be dealt with separately. What remains in the skip, usually smaller items, are either sorted by hand-picking or by more sophisticated, highly automated machines. Equipment for mechanised sorting may include trammels (spinning mesh screens through which the waste of various sizes can fall), blowers to divert light waste, and magnets to remove metals. Recycling and Separation
Each form of waste is handled separately. For instance, scrap metal will be broken down into subclasses, construction debris will be crushed, and dirt will be sifted. In essence, the treatment step gets them ready for the ultimate recycling stage, when they will either be shipped to specialised businesses that can transform them into new goods or they will be recycled internally.
Disposal
At this point, processed waste can be recycled. As previously stated, various products, such as textiles, waste metal, topsoil, and aggregates, can be transferred to specialised businesses. Timber may be treated so that it is suitable for reuse in various uses, and scrap metal can be delivered to manufacturers to be repurposed. Any processed waste that can currently be recycled will be recycled.

The concept of “zero to landfill” is now more achievable than ever since people are increasingly aware of the risks associated with reliance on landfills.
